Thanks so much for all your support last year. Sadly we have decided not to hold the market this year. It has been very difficult for us to secure vendors, in particular farmers and what's a Farmers Market without farmers? So this year we will be taking a break and we are not saying we will never be back, who knows what the year will bring!
We will keep you all posted.

It was a quiet market last Sunday - strange, as the weather was perfect - it was breezy, sunny and no humidity, it's what we have been waiting ALL summer for!
It is wonderful however to welcome more and more of our neighbors from nearby Ormewood Park, East Atlanta and Grant Park to the market. All in all, more and more folks are venturing to The Square every week which is great for our vendors and local businesses which is what the market is all about at the end of the day!
And of course, not to forget, we are forever grateful to the GP residents who support our market every week, we know who you are and we wish there were more like you! It's always strange to see so many of our neighbors sit and observe the market but never venture into it or walk right by it. They really don't know what they are missing out on but hey - you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
I had a wonderful chat with Janea from The Mercantile on the subject of community and artisan awareness - how hard it is to compete with the convenience and low cost of the mass producers - clearly the artisan produce or small grower is infinitely better, in so many ways: the quality, freshness & taste of the produce, the low impact on the environment of buying local, the uniqueness of the product and doing "the right thing" by supporting small local businesses. But.... We are so programmed for convenience, to rely on the quick fix, especially the low prices in today's economy and here's the rub: if more of us went the way of the artisan, the prices would become lower, the availability more widespread, the environment happier and so on.
So, if you can and if you will, please support your local farmers market whether it is ours or EAV, Piedmont, Peachtree Road, wherever you may be.
We all have the same purpose and your purchase means so much more with us than it ever will at Kroger, Publix or Wholefoods.

Just been painting a couple of boards of plywood white in anticipation of our Kids Sign Painting party tomorrow at the fantastic new Shop & Drop Kids Store GROW! in Glenwood Park.

The party starts at noon with milk (Johnstons Dairy of course!) and cookies (baked by Hal at Drip coffee shop as I type!) for the little ones.
Hardright Bakeries will be here with all their fresh baked goodness, Pearl River with Johnston's Dairy Milk, Jams & Jellies.
We'll have candles for Autistic Awareness, Crochet Crafts from GwenGoods, clever and eclectic jewelry from Lula's Jewels...
Stephanie from Lyle Hill Farm is bringing peppers, onions, okra, peas, melons, tomatilos, muscadines, tomatoes, fig almond conserve, lemon dill jelly and pepper jelly.
Janea from The Mercantile will be here with all their gourmet delights including fresh farm eggs and also, making balloon hats (in grown up & kids sizes!).
And Amy with Usborne Books will be here with her fantastic range of kids books.

So.... David McMullin, formerly of New Moon Gardens is taking over the old Urban Gardner spot on Boulevard with his new garden venture - Gardenhood, opening this Octover. This neighborhood has had a garden void since we lost Urban Gardner in the year of droughts and crappy economy. He will be at the market this weekend with some perennials and more info on the new site.

Stephanie at Lyle Hill just dropped me a quick mail to let me know that she will be bringing tomatoes, scallions, okra, muscadines, scuppernongs, peppers, eggplants, tomatillos and hopefully some purple hull peas if they are ready, to the market this Sunday - not to forget her awesome Cranberry Habanero jelly!

And we would like to wish Paul Hardy of Hardright Bakery our hearty congratulations on 20 years in business this past September 1st! Happy Birthday Hardright!

The dog days of summer seem to have been chased away, for now at least. We had a great market today, 12 wonderful vendors, many regulars and a couple of newbies including local artist Isaac Johnson IV who we are delighted to welcome as our resident market artist. Come see him next Sunday, check our his art and have an amazing freehand henna tattoo.

We were also delighted to welcome Green Concepts a super flexible urban landscaping company, they listen, advise, budget, plan and install or provide everything you need to do it yourself.

It was fantastic to welcome WAGALOT to the market today, Glenwood Park's favorite Doggie Day Care brought fantastic treats and toys for all our furry friends and are thinking about offering a doggie paw-dicures at future markets, we'll keep you posted!

Our regulars included Hardright Bakeries, celebrating 20 years in business this coming September 1st. Not really a surprise when you try one of their chocolate chip pecan pies.
Franco from Antico Mercante had the most phenomenal cheeses as per usual including a blue goat cheese with wild berries & rose petals. Unbelievable. Gwen from Gwengoods is working on a very cool crocheted I-Phone cover, I'll be sporting one of those when they are ready!
Lyle Hill Farms and Scott Reaver brought fantastic produce, all kinds of delicious tomatoes, squash, shelled lady peas, figs, okra, melons, corn, and Lyle Hill Farms Tomato/Basil Jam & Cranberry/Habanero Jelly were outstanding.

Our dear Paul Miller from Pearl River Vineyards and Johnston Dairy Farm brought his fab jams & jellies and the best milk ever from the dairy along with the exciting news that soon, Johnston's Dairy will be producing not only whole, 2% & chocolate milk but also buttermilk & yoghurt are in the pipeline, we can't wait!

There are rumblings from The Mercantile of a Friday night delivery service - this would rock my world, after a long week of whatever, more than often who has the energy to get out of the house or cook dinner, imagine a delicious hot dinner from Chef Samantha along with a couple of gourmet essentials delivered to your door... yes, I will keep you posted.

Saturday's market is on the move! And we have some really exciting events planned for the market this weekend!

This Saturday you will find the market in The Shed at Glenwood's parking lot, same time as usual - 10am - 2pm.

Easier to find us, easier to park and easier to drop in to The Shed and grab a glass of something cold and refreshing and a couple of the finest BluePointe Oysters for just $1.50 ea/$15 per dozen after shopping the market or sit on the terrace and watch the world go by and listen to music from the talented students from Vision Music!

Saturday's Market at The Shed:

Kids love popsicles - especially in this crazy heat but what we don't love is the sugar & artificial colors that they contain.
Join Agatha Achindu of Yummy Spoonfuls Baby Food - recently featured on CNN, for a Healthy Popsicle Class at 11am on Saturday! The Market Kids activity table will keep your little monkeys busy while Agatha shares some great ideas and tips for Popsicles they will love and will actually be good for them (hint - she even sneaks some veggies into them!).

Hardright Bakeries will be here on both days with their freshly baked bread, baguettes, pies, cakes plus fresh Georgia Grown Produce!

We are very excited to welcome Calyroad Creamery with their delicious fresh Goat Cheeses to the market:
Robin Schick and Cathy Spivey founded CalyRoad Creamery in the Spring of 2009. Teaming up with
Sheila Simpson of 7 B Bar Dairy, it’s their mission to provide fresh farmstead cheese to the Atlanta
area.

For the past week, our house has smelled like a tropical beach vacation thanks to the deliciously scented Coconut Lime Soy Candle from Tiffany's Candles, it's a feelgood candle in more ways than one, as part of the proceeds of her sales go to The Autism Society of America
Check out all her fabulous candles on Saturday and donate to a great cause.

Vesta Cole will be at the market with her fantastic Scrappy Skirts, so fun & cute for the kids - we wish she made grown up sizes!

Something else for the little ones - Lovely Tenel at Malanie's Fun & Tasty Treats will be face-painting ladybugs, fire trucks, butterflies, whatever their hearts desire for free! And don't forget her amazing Candy Apples, crisp green granny smiths smothered with chocolate, caramel, Oreos, nuts and more - they are the best!

We are also excited to welcome Honeysuckle Soap to the market - they hand make their soaps using the cold process method with high quality natural oils.

Leslie Christian with her wonderful crochet crafts will be here. Leslie is a fifth generation crocheter and knitter from the Bahamas - interesting fact about Leslie - it was her uncle who cast the deciding vote for the Bahamas Independency on July 10 1973!

Michey's Ices will be here too, to cool you down with some delicious & refreshing Italian Ice!

Happy Market Shopper!

We have a couple of great markets for you this week and the forecast is perfect market weather for once!
On Saturday we have live music from 10am from Vision Music. Our Saturday vendors include Antico Mercante Artisan Cheeses, Wonderful Italian Produce from Zio Micu's Garden, Paul from Pearl River will also have Johnson Dairy Fresh Milk this week, Hardright Bakery with fresh baked bread, Lisa from Cabbagetown Market is bringing soups, spreads, vegetables, local farm raised meat, Mellowbellies Pork and Grass fed Beef and maybe even ice cream! Tenel will be there with her candy apples and face paints and we are excited to welcome Channon Weeks, a local chocolatier and Vang Yang, a local farmer with fresh cut flowers and veggies.
SUNDAY brings back Hidden Springs Honey, Hope's Pesto and Via Elise's fresh pasta. First Coast Gourmet will be there with steaks, seafood, baby purees from Jack's Harvest & more and we are excited to welcome Very Good Plants with their plants and garden supplies.

We had a wonderful Easter Market, thanks to everyone who came along!

Not quite the sunny day we were hoping for but we'll take a rain free day anytime!
Our Easter Bunny photo op raised $250 for Oakland Cemetery - thanks to Kevin Kuharic, Directpr of Restoration & Landscapes for bringing the photo boards showing the terrible extent of the damage after the tornado last year.
And of course, thanks to the Easter Bunny and our great photographer, Chris Voith.

Franco from Antico Mercante is bringing fresh eggs and bacon again, if you bought the bacon at the last market you will know, it is absolutely delicious, cured locally in Avondale.
